Volunteer Of The Year
We are delignted to announce that our Debbie has been shortlisted for Volunteer of the Year at the prestigious Third Sector Awards for the charity sector. She will be attending the Awards Evening on Thursday 19th September at the Marriott, Grosvenor Square – GOOD LUCK!
Debbie was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder, Usher syndrome II, over 40 years ago. The condition causes hearing impairment and progressive vision loss due to Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP). RP is a result of a decline in the cells that detect light which ultimately leads to sight loss, and for some will lead to blindness.
For over 25 years Debbie has been a supporter of Fight for Sight, dedicated to raising money and being involved in awareness and advocacy events to talk about the importance of eye research. The main event is the annual Golf Day raising over £12500 in July but she has also thrown herself out of a plane 3 times and next year it will be the Zip Wire in Snowdon
